Our Hearts As A Bridge To Inclusion
by Kirk Hinkelman
At our Week 3 gathering, keyword: CHOICE, Kirk Hinklemen, Life Works' Director of Creative Design and Wellbeing introduced Life Works, and guided the group in a moment of mindfulness, an opportunity to connect with our hearts, allowing room for awareness of our inner condition and its connection to our work.
In the article link below, Kirk writes about reflections that emerged throughout a 7 day silent retreat, and in particular "the Brahma Viharras practices which cultivate qualities of the heart",
...as one of the teachers present, Shelly Graf put it, "the cultivation of these qualities creates a heart that includes.
Kirk points to the need to care for our hearts, and self-compassion, as a bridge to inclusion.

What More For Joaquin?
by Beth Gallagher and John O'Brien
Asking "what more is possible?" is a question filled with creative tension.
In Joaquin's story, Beth and John, uncover that asking "what more for Joaquin?" leads to asking "more" of ourselves, each person involved; the system; the support organization; and the community where he lives.
Creative tension is alive through the negotiations to leave the institutional placement found himself in, and receive the resources necessary for him to rejoin family, and find his place as a contributor to community life.
