Habits of the Heart

Curiosity, compassion, and courage are habits of the heart that build our learning community as we all find ways to share our gifts and what we have learned from experience. These habits guide our journey to better and better answers to a question that defines our common task.

How might we support one another to co-create social inventions that offer individualized support to full life in community?

Our learning community offers opportunities to identify and share patterns of action that embody the habits of the heart. The more of us who take responsibility for bringing our contributions forward and the more of us who take responsibility for sensing and encouraging contributions, the stronger our community will grow.

Awareness of Possibilities names one pattern that will activate more and more voices.

  • Whether another person is a well known co-worker or someone just met in conversation be alert to sense a contribution they might make to our community’s learning.

  • Name the contribution and invite the person to bring it forward for other’s benefit.

  • Ask what it would take to realize the contribution. Assist if you are needed and able.

The clarity of this, especially within the context of Theory U, is fabulous.

I love this John. A reminder that we are ALL contributers to our experience. There is no single person or group that is 'allowed' to provide new ideas. If you sense it, share it. If you hear it, encourage it.
